Daydreaming with UNKLE presents The Road - Leeds
UNKLE is the music collective and creative platform of James Lavelle, one of britain’s most influential artists. His extraordinary career spans music, fashion, art, moving image, digital art, brand, performance and events.
We worked closely with UNKLE's James Lavelle and his 'Daydreaming with...' team to produce a series of unique and interactive events in meanwhile spaces at Leeds Dock exploring the cultural impact of 25 years of UNKLE accompanied by an intimate Q&A and DJ set.
As part of our place strategy to establish Leeds Dock (Allied London) as the city’s creative media hub our curated event programme focussed heavily on cutting edge culture and multi-media experiences that enlivened a series of meanwhile spaces across the estate, allowing future tenants to appreciate the location and its atmosphere and attitude.
We identified and secured content that would resonate with the Dock’s media tenants and the city’s creative industries, attract footfall and generate extensive PR and social coverage.
The show explored music, art and street culture from a host of talented artists and collaborators, including 3D of Massive Attack, NY graffiti pioneer Futura 2000, digital artist Doug Foster and Mo' Wax graphic designer Ben Drury.
“James is one of the true cultural provocateurs who has consistently been at the cutting edge of culture”
James did a series of interviews for the city’s key publications and treated audiences to a 4 hour DJ set close the exhibition.
A pop-up store sold collaborative rare counter cultural artefacts from brands Hysteric Glamour, Neigbourhood, Undercover, as well as vintage collectible pieces from Nike, Converse, Medicom & Kubrick toys.
A cinema showed a selection of UNKLE's iconic music videos from the likes of Jonathan Glazer and Spike Jonze.
“UNKLE has always been a multi-sensory creative project, ranging from genre-defining music to cutting-edge visual art. It therefore felt incredibly fitting to celebrate UNKLE’s past, present and future in Leeds, with an immersive show at the cultural hub of Leeds Dock.
The exhibition was a collaboration between a number of very talented artists, presenting everything from paintings, videos, artefacts and film screenings; It was the definitive UNKLE experience.”
Doug Foster’s mesmerising ‘Visions From The Road’ - a 5m tall digital art installation and reflecting pool choreographed to a selection of tracks from 'The Road: Part 1' allowed the audience to 'experience art at it’s most immersive' (James Lavelle).
An indepth conversation with James Lavelle explored his influences, aspirations and collaborations across his extensive career.
